The young ladies of the “Power of Girls” Mentoring Program personally chose Girls Inc. as the charity that they wanted to support. On June 25, the girls participated in their first “Power Lesson,” a series of seminars focusing on topics ranging from health and well-being to financial planning. The first lesson was conducted by Joiel Alexander, Vice President of Uptown Scoop, a local publication catering to businesswomen. Alexander spoke about the importance of grasping a basic understanding of finances early, and gave the girls pointers on how they could start planning for the future today.
Kathy Burrows, who works in WNBA Fan Development, then introduced the girls’ fundraising project and gave the girls an inside look at a career in the professional sports industry. Then it was time for the girls to select the charity of their choice. After much research and discussion, the girls selected Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta.
