2010 Preseason Game 1
With only one week of practice under their collective belt, the Chicago Sky came out on top in the team's first pre-season game 87-78 over the Minnesota Lynx on the campus of Concordia University in St. Paul."We used this opportunity to see where we were after only a week of practice," said Sky Head Coach and General Manager Steven Key. "We found out we have a lot to work on as well as reinforce."
Shameka Christon scored 17 points in her first game on the Sky. She shot 5-of-9 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the 3-point arc in 21 minutes played.
Chicago's Tamera Young led the Sky with 18 points and grabbed six rebounds.
The Sky got out to a 27-20 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Chicago led 75-57 headed into the fourth quarter equaling the Sky's biggest lead of the game after outscoring the Lynx 28-14 in the third quarter.
"At times I felt we moved and shared the ball pretty well," Key said.
The Lynx were led by rookie Monica Wright's 18 points. Wright played 30 minutes and shot 5-of-17 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line.
The Sky outscored Minnesota in the paint 32-26 on the game. The Sky also scored 21 fast break points to the Lynx's eight. The Sky was outrebounded 38-30.
The Chicago Sky host the Lynx at Allstate Arena in pre-season action on May 6 at 11:30am.
