Connecticut Sun To Host Chinese National Team
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (April 4, 2011) — The Connecticut Sun announced today it will host the Chinese National Women’s Basketball Team in a preseason game at Mohegan Sun Arena on May 19th at 7 p.m.
This will be the second time the Chinese National Team has visited the Sun. On May 8, 2004, Team China pulled out an 87-85 victory at Mohegan Sun Arena.
“My experience in international play is that China has been highly competitive; they were really good at the most recent Olympics and have worked their way up in the world ranking,” said Mike Thibault, current head coach of the Sun and an assistant coach on the gold medal-winning United States women’s team at the 2008 Olympics. “They have players capable of playing in our league, so we'll be up against a good team. This will be a good first test to tip off our season and it will be a good way for a number of WNBA teams to prepare.”
The Sun will close out the preseason with a pair of games against the San Antonio Silver Stars – on May 25th at 7 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena, and on May 27th in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza at 7 p.m.
The Connecticut Sun will open its ninth season at Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, June 4th, hosting the Washington Mystics at 7 p.m. Sun season tickets, mini plans and groups for the 2011 season are currently on sale and can be reserved by calling a Sun Ticket Sales Representative at 1.877.SUN.TIXX or by e-mailing the Sun at tickets@connecticutsun.com.
